Pediatrics

Our children are our future, and Hurley Medical Center provides them with exceptional clinical care in the form of nationally recognized pediatric and neonatal programs. Central to the program is Hurley Children’s Hospital, the premier medical facility in the region and a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital since 1990. The future looks bright for HCH. A major renovation, due to be completed in December, will bring private beds to the pediatric unit and PICU. These improvements lead to better healing and a better future for all involved.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Fragile lives require the expert care that only Hurley can provide in their Level III NICU. Each year nearly 1,000 babies are born prematurely or critically ill, either at Hurley or in the surrounding tri-county area. As the area benchmark for treatment, we often transport these tiniest patients from other hospitals to give them their best chance.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Our highly-specialized PICU delivers the highest level of care to critically ill or injured patients ranging in age from newborns to 20 years old. In addition to the region’s only pediatric procedural sedation and infusion clinic, the fourteen beds in the unit are devoted to a vast array of critical cases ranging from serious respiratory illnesses to multi-system trauma cases. To optimize their skills, all Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurses are certified in ACLS, PALS, BLS, ATCN or TNCC, and have the option to become certified as a Pediatric CCRN.

Pediatric Unit

The Pediatric Department is a 28-bed unit that provides the highest quality of care to patients from birth to the age of 20. The program offers a chance to treat a wide range of conditions with a large emphasis on hematology/oncology. All Pediatric Nurses are certified by the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) after completion of required hours and will have the opportunity to become Certified Pediatric Nurses.
