Breast Cancer Program
As the region’s leader in breast health and breast cancer treatment, the Hurley Breast Cancer Program is making that belief a reality by consistently providing the highest level of clinical breast cancer care and compassion for patients and their families.
The Breast Cancer Program at Hurley Medical Center is certified by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the only accrediting body of the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer that accredits breast programs. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
This is the highest accreditation awarded to an institution’s breast program and Hurley is the first and only medical center in Genesee County to receive this distinction.
Breast Health Nurse Navigator
Hurley Medical Center is committed to making sure women have the information, resources, and support they need to make their breast cancer treatment experience as positive and successful as possible. To help our patients navigate the complicated and stressful world of breast cancer, we provide a Breast Health Nurse Navigator. Hurley is the first medical center in Genesee County to offer a Breast Health Nurse Navigator.
From diagnosis to treatment to breast reconstruction to long-term follow-up, this caring, highly-trained registered nurse supports patients going through breast cancer treatment.
Treatment
Our oncologists are committed to educating patients about breast cancer and treatment options so that, together, you and your care providers can create a plan that addresses your medical, emotional and family needs.
Depending on the size and location of the tumor in the breast, the results of diagnostic tests, and the stage (or extent) of the disease, treatment for breast cancer may include one or more of the following:
- Breast Cancer Surgery
- Radiation Oncology
- Medical Oncology
- Interventional Radiology
- Chemoembolization
- Hormonal therapy
Clinical trials are used to test new and promising treatments that may or may not be better than currently available therapies. Talk with your Hurley physician about clinical trials to see if one is right for you.
