Robotic Lung Screening (Ion System)
The Ion Endoluminal System is a new, minimally invasive technology that allows our lung specialists to screen and biopsy suspicious lung nodules earlier, more safely, and with greater accuracy than traditional methods.
How It Works
The Ion system uses a thin, flexible robotic catheter that can navigate deep into the small, hard-to-reach areas of the lung. Guided by advanced 3D imaging, our physicians can precisely reach even the smallest nodules and collect tissue samples for diagnosis.
Benefits for Patients
- Earlier answers – Cancer can be detected when it is most treatable.
- Minimally invasive – The procedure uses a bronchoscope through the mouth or nose, avoiding surgical incisions.
- High precision – Robotic navigation improves accuracy compared to standard bronchoscopies.
- Faster recovery – Most patients go home the same day and experience little to no discomfort.
A Better Chance at Early Detection
Most lung cancers are discovered only after symptoms appear. With the Ion System, Hurley Lung Center specialists can identify and biopsy tiny nodules earlier, giving patients the best possible chance for successful treatment.
