Minimally Invasive Surgery
At Hurley Medical Center, our Minimally Invasive Surgery Center of Excellence is led by recognized leaders in endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery. We offer expertise in the fields of laparoscopic surgery, surgical endoscopy, robotic surgery and incisionless surgery. Our physicians are board certified and specialty trained to provide the highest standard of surgical care. Surgery can now be performed using small incisions that can be closed with a few stitches. Using specialized techniques such as miniature cameras with microscopes, tiny fiber optic lights and high definition monitors, surgeons can correct many problems without requiring the patient to undergo major surgery or large incisions. From the smallest newborns to senior citizens, we are able to offer minimally invasive surgeries as well as minimally and noninvasive diagnostic procedures. MIS is performed both on an inpatient (stay in the hospital) and outpatient (go home the same day) basis. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) offers many benefits over traditional techniques, including:
- Less pain
- Smaller incisions
- Fewer complications
- Shorter hospital stays
- Quicker return to normal activities
- Minimal scarring
- Reduced recovery time
- Less injury to tissue
Reflux Surgery
Patients who have laparoscopic reflux surgery for GERD generally experience less pain and scarring after surgery, have a quicker recovery, and less risk of infection than those who have traditional antireflux surgery.
Gallbladder Surgery
Gallbladder removal is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures and when performed with minimally invasive techniques most patients can go home the same day of the surgery and enjoy a quicker return to normal activities.
Hernia Surgery
Patients who undergo laparoscopic hernia repair experience fewer complications, a shorter hospital stay, less pain and a much faster recovery than with traditional open surgery. Patients are generally able to return to work sooner and most patients return to full activity within 3 to 4 weeks.
Weight Loss Surgery
Laparoscopic approaches offer the same potentially life-saving results as traditional open weight loss surgery but with significantly less pain and fewer complications. Patients typically return home two to four days after their surgery and usually return to work and other activities significantly earlier than they would after traditional weight loss surgery.
